Help us measure seawater temperatures and spot thermal microclimates and marine heatwaves!
Our blue planet is heating up, and the sea around us is no exception. Prolonged temperature spikes – called marine heatwaves – are challenging marine life, including the important plants and animals that keep our coastal ecosystems healthy.
We are launching a new citizen science project in the Archipelago Sea, and we would be happy if you’d be part of it! We will kick off with a talk, during which you will learn how these extreme events affect our coastal ecosystems and what science and local communities can do to protect them.
We are inviting residents across the Archipelago Sea to take part in our citizen science effort. No science background is needed – just your interest and a connection to the sea. Want to join or learn more?
This project is supported by SOS, a Centre of Excellence at Åbo Akademi University, funded by the Åbo Akademi University Foundation during 2024–2028.
